The Story So Far...

Oblique Visions began in November 1991, a band playing a heavy fusion of Gothic and Melodic Death-Doom Metal, influenced by British Death-Doom Metal bands such as Paradise Lost, Anathema And My Dying Bride. In January, 1993 the band parted ways with their first vocalist, which led to numerous vocalist changes for the following year and a half. Oblique Visions' third vocalist, James Schembri, was the mastermind behind the band’s cathedral artwork logo, but was duly replaced by Andre Camilleri. December 1993 saw the band’s debut at Fort Rinella with the following line-up:

It was after this that Oblique Visions decided to record its first demo, and in March 1994 "The Fallen" was released. Although the demo was not of professional quality, it still had a great response and good reviews by the public. Andre and Denise took different musical paths, subsequently leaving the band. Wolff took over the keyboard responsibilities, albeit for recording purposes only.

New vocalist Jason Agius fitted perfectly into the band, due to his vocal style and new ideas. Following his introduction, Oblique Visions entered the recording studios at the end of May 1995 to record their first full length album "Seas Of Serenity", which was released 5 months later. Oblique Visions built quite a reputation both in the local and foreign underground metal scene which increased constantly due to Oblique Visions' tight live performances, and powerful musical genre. Oblique Visions started to work on new material, and continued to gig all over Malta along with other popular underground metal bands. Meanwhile, "Seas of Serenity" was selling well, and ranked 10th in the top 30 Maltese band charts (courtesy of D’Amato Music Store, Valletta). Heavy, melodic, doom riffs and solos, blast beats, growls of misery and mesmerizing keyboard made Oblique Visions one of the most well-known Gothic fusion Melodic Death-Doom Metal Bands on the island.

In September 1998, Jason left the band due to work related issues. He was replaced by David "Beast" Fenech, and for the following 2 years the band continued to perform live and write new songs with a Hardcore influence. A year later, Wolff left the band to return to his motherland, Australia. The band never did replace Wolff, but kept on gigging around the Maltese islands. It was the song "Millennium" that gave the band renewed success, with fans asking for encores during gigs, and a prominent radio rock program playing live recordings of the song on a permanent basis. But that was not enough to stop Twister from quitting the band, his place was taken by Roderick Attard. Beast also left the band, to be replaced by Thomas Guiliano. Oblique Visions continued to work on new material and made a few garage recordings. It was in 2002 that Jeffrey left for the Philippines due to working reason. His departure signaled the end of the band…

2006 was a year of renaissance for the band, as founding members Twister and Fusa decided to start the band again. Jason Agius (Vocals) and Antoine Farrugia (Guitars) were drafted in. Peter Grech, after being contacted by Fusa, auditioned for the vacant guitarist post, and subsequently joined the band. The beginning of 2007 saw Antoine Farrugia leave the band due to personal reasons, quickly followed by Fusa, who quit the band due to musical differences. Twister and Peter kept looking for new musicians, and at the same kept on writing new material, pushing the band into a more Progressive style. It was in April 2007 that Twister and Peter approached vocalist Natassja Saliba to join the band. Natassja's first rendition of one the band’s newest songs, “Boneyard Creek”, gave the band a new identity, and added a new musical dimension to the band’s material. February 2008 saw Xakall befriend Peter, and joined Oblique Visions as a second guitarist. He later switched to bass due to the scarce amount of bass players on the island. Guitar duties were filled by Silvio Cutajar, whom Twister and Xakall had met at the 2008 edition of the Extreme Maltese Metal Festival. Later that year, Valerie Cassar joined Oblique Visions as a backing vocalist, adding depth to the song's dimensions.

May 2009 saw the band's first live performance at Poxx Bar, Paceville after a 7 year absence, with fellow metal acts In The Name Of and 26 Other Worlds. Oblique Vision's performed a number of old and new tracks, receiving very encouraging feedback from those present. After going through a number of male vocalists, Joseph Grech joined the band in July 2009 to finally complete the Oblique Visions setup. The band will be playing soon, in a hell near you... so watch this space!
